Insert Media Element Flash Movie problem

I am trying to import a flash MX movie into Director 8.0 and am following the directions exactly. I have used both "import" and "insert media element." When I use "insert media element," I can tell that something is wrong because in the "flash asset properties" window, the preview does not work. If I hit "play," I just see white space in the preview box. I have compared this to an import of a flash movie created by someone else -- in the case of the other source's swf file, the preview works, and there is also additional info beneath the preview screen (40 frames, 12 fps, 100*100 pixels, 58B), none of which appears when I am trying to insert my own flash movie.

When I complete the insert process, my flash movie (saved as an swf file in FlashMX) appears as a cast member. I can place it onto the stage and I see an outline for it, but when I play the Director movie, nothing happens. In another post, I just read that someone said that only flash 5 movies can currently be imported. Is that the case?

Flash MX is not supported except in Dir MX. Save your swf as Flash 4 to
import into Dir8.
